Substitution Steps

1

Choose a substitute

To start, each person should understand the legal requirements and responsibilities of delivering in Finland. We recommend following the Substitution checklist to ensure safe and lawful deliveries.

2

Make a clear and fair agreement

Agreements are up to you. You may consider including payment terms and schedule, duration of the agreement to start. You decide how you will coordinate with your substitute.

3

Know your obligations

All deliverers must be ready to show right-to-work documents in the app if asked. Account holders must verify that the substitute has a safe vehicle and the required license before they start.

4

Prepare for Delivering

Before deliveries, the courier partner and substitute should discuss Wolt platform delivery responsibilities and ensure the substitute has a food safe delivery bag.

5

Start delivering

Once everything is set, your substitute can start delivering. Stay in regular contact, pay out earnings according to your agreement, and note any changes that may affect you or your substitute.

Substitution Readiness Checklist

For courier partners

Your substitute has a legal right to work in Finland. View the required documents to confirm they have the right to work.

  • Valid Finnish Residence Permit

  • Finnish ID Card with FIN as the nationality

  • EU ID card with an EU country as the nationality

  • Finnish or EU passport

You may need to provide these documents for review in the app. Each courier or substitute should keep documents with them while delivering to complete the re-verification process if asked to do so.  If your proposed substitute does not have these documents, they are not eligible to do deliveries using the Wolt platform.

If you are not able to provide these documents when requested or your account has been found to violate Finnish labor law, actions in line with the Service Agreement might be taken on the courier partner account, including possible termination of the partnership.

Substitution Readiness Checklist

For Substitutes

Meeting all the working and eligibility requirements of the country you intend to deliver in is one of the first steps to becoming a substitute for a Wolt courier partner. The main account holder should establish that you have all the required permissions to deliver legally by verifying that you have one of the following valid documents:

  • A valid Finnish or EU/EEA passport

  • A valid Finnish or EU/EEA ID card that shows EU/EEA country nationality

  • A valid Finnish residence permit

  • A latest Migri certificate confirming you have applied for a continuation/extension of your residence permit and can legally work in Finland with no restrictions till a decision is made

If you have a restricted residence permit, i.e., a residence permit granted only for a specific work or field, for example, research, cleaning services, restaurant work, etc., then you cannot deliver with Wolt. It is your responsibility to be aware of your residence permit restrictions, follow those restrictions, and/or sort them with the immigration office.

If you choose to deliver with a car/motorbike or similar, you also need to have a valid driver's license that is acceptable in Finland. All required documents must be available and able to be shown when requested.

Red Flags for unfair substitution situations

No clear agreement

A courier partner doesn't want to make a clear agreement in writing that describes your substitution situation.

Upfront fees for account access

If you are asked to pay upfront to gain access to an account to then earn with Wolt, this is a red flag. It's best to avoid situations where you would pay for the chance to earn later.

Pressure to ignore the necessary legal requirements

If an account holder doesn't want to complete some or all of the suggested checklist for substitution, like checking your right to work documents, making a written agreement, or explaining the app

Unclear payment schedule and terms

The pay schedule is not clear, or you are not sure what amount you will be paid for the deliveries you have made. Also, if the payment method is unclear or not what was agreed on.

Keeping your substitution hidden

Courier partners are able to allow substitutes to complete deliveries on their behalf using their courier partner account with Wolt. There isn't a valid reason to keep the substitution hidden.
