Substitution

Appointing a substitute

1

Find the Substitution tab

The substitution tab can be found in the menu in your partner app. Press the three bars at the top left of your screen to open the menu, and click Substitution to continue.

2

Read more and agree to continue

After you've found the substitution tab and have read all the provided information about substitution, you can click agree to continue on in the process of appointing your first substitute.

3

Add your substitutes

After agreeing, you can add your substitute(s) one by one. Just fill in their personal information and upload the required documents in the app. We'll send your substitute an email to get started.

4

Schedule timeslots

When your substitute is approved, you will get a schedule. Every hour is pre-filled with the account holder's name. To allow your substitute to deliver, unassign yourself and assign the substitute.

5

Start delivering

Once you have agreed with your substitute on which time slots are best for each of you and set them in the schedule, your substitute can start delivering at those times.

Substitution Readiness Checklist

For Courier Partners

Your substitute has a legal right to work in Norway. View the required documents to confirm that they have the right to work.

  • Valid Norwegian Residence Permit with no working hour limitations

  • Norwegian ID Card with NOR as the nationality

  • EU or EEA country ID card with an EU or EEA country as the nationality

  • EU or EEA country passport

You may need to provide these documents for review in the app. Each courier or substitute should keep documents with them while delivering to complete the re-verification process if asked to do so.  If your proposed substitute does not have these documents, they are not eligible to do deliveries using the Wolt platform. Read more from our Identity Verification FAQ.

If you are unable to provide these documents when requested, or if your account is found to violate Norwegian labor law, actions in line with the Service Agreement may be taken on the courier partner account, including possible termination of the partnership.

Substitution Readiness Checklist

For Substitutes

Meeting all the working and eligibility requirements of the country you intend to deliver in is one of the first steps to becoming a substitute for a Wolt courier partner. The main account holder should establish that you have all the required permissions to deliver legally by verifying that you have one of the following valid documents:

  • Valid Norwegian Residence Permit with no working hour limitations

  • Norwegian ID Card with NOR as the nationality

  • EU or EEA country ID card with an EU or EEA country as the nationality

  • EU or EEA country passport

You may need to provide these documents for review in the app. Each person delivering should keep documents with them to complete the re-verification process if asked to while online.  If you do not have one of these documents, you are not eligible to do deliveries using the Wolt platform. Read more from our Identity Verification FAQ. If you have a restricted residence permit, i.e., a residence permit granted only for a specific work or field, for example, research, cleaning services, restaurant work, etc., then you cannot deliver with Wolt. It is your responsibility to be aware of your residence permit restrictions, follow those restrictions, and/or change them with the immigration office as needed to fit your current situation.

If you choose to deliver with a car/motorbike or similar, you also need to have a valid driver's license that is acceptable in Norway. All required documents must be available and able to be shown when requested.

Red Flags for unfair substitution situations

No clear agreement

A courier partner doesn't want to make a clear agreement in writing that describes your substitution situation.

Upfront fees for account access

If you are asked to pay upfront to gain access to an account to then earn with Wolt, this is a red flag. It's best to avoid situations where you would pay for the chance to earn later.

Pressure to ignore the necessary legal requirements

If an account holder doesn't want to complete some or all of the suggested checklist for substitution, like checking your right to work documents, making a written agreement, or explaining the app

Keeping your substitution hidden

Courier partners can allow substitutes to complete deliveries on their behalf using their courier partner account with Wolt. There isn't a valid reason to keep the substitution hidden.

Unclarity about tax and employment situation

Your employment relationship with the main account holder should be clear at all times. If you are an employee of the main account holder, you may both have additional responsibilities to meet.

Reporting in serious situations

If you suspect the law is being broken or have knowledge of serious situations of misuse and abusive practices, or severe violations of Wolt policy, please use our SpeakUp channel to make a report on the situation. You can also check our Red Flags section to learn more about how to avoid risky substitution situations. If you feel your rights have been violated or you need additional support, you can also contact the police for guidance.
