Impact level: Very High City: Copenhagen & Frederiksberg, Denmark Date: September 19–20, 2026 Time: Throughout both days, with major road closures from 07:00–19:30 on Saturday and 06:00–17:00 on Sunday.
Main impact: Copenhagen hosts the World Athletics Road Running Championships, bringing the world’s elite athletes together with around 65,000 participants for the One Mile and 5 km races on Saturday and the Half Marathon on Sunday. The races take over large parts of Copenhagen and Frederiksberg, resulting in extensive road closures, parking restrictions, and limited vehicle access. Key affected areas include Østerbro, Jagtvej, Østerbrogade, Øster Allé/Fælledparken, the city centre and Frederiksberg. Some start and finish areas will remain closed for several days around the event, while parking restrictions begin as early as September 18.
Recommendation: Expect significant delays and restricted vehicle access across Copenhagen and Frederiksberg throughout the weekend. Allow substantial extra time for pickups and deliveries, check navigation for temporary closures before each trip, and be prepared for detours.
