Main impact: The Latvian Cyclists’ Unity Ride is Latvia’s largest annual cycling event, bringing several thousand cyclists from Latvia and neighbouring countries to Sigulda. The main event on September 6 features multiple distances, including 95 km road cycling, 62 km gravel, 58 km mountain bike, 47 km public ride and 29 km recreational ride, with starts taking place from the Gaujas Street and Cēsu Street intersection between 10:00 and 13:20. Routes pass through Sigulda and surrounding roads, meaning temporary road closures, traffic restrictions and significant increases in cyclist and spectator traffic can be expected. September 5 also features a children’s cycling event at Spieķu Park.

Recommendation: Expect significant delays for pickups and deliveries in Sigulda and along roads used by the cycling routes, particularly on September 6. Allow substantial extra travel time, check navigation for temporary road closures before each trip, and be prepared for detours. Drivers should avoid the active cycling routes where possible and follow instructions from traffic controllers. Bike couriers should also be cautious, as sections of normally accessible roads may form part of the competition routes and have restricted access.
