Interviews and Stories

Courier Partner of the Month

We’re launching Courier of the Month to celebrate couriers who make a positive impact in their city. Each month, we’ll feature one courier and share a short story about their journey, why they were recognised, and a tip they’d like to pass on to others. The goal is simple: to say thank you, highlight great examples in our community, and recognise the everyday effort that goes into reliable, friendly, and safe deliveries. 💙

Ilona from Helsinki

Since 2021, Ilona has been bringing energy, resilience, and positivity to the streets of Helsinki — proving that independence and attitude can make all the difference.

💬 “Be strong and try to have a positive attitude - days are super different.”

Originally from Estonia and living in Finland for over 14 years, Ilona’s journey to becoming a Courier Partner wasn’t a straight line. After more than a decade working at the airport, the pandemic pushed her to rethink her path. Encouraged by a friend, she decided to try delivering with Wolt — even though at first she thought the job might be “too simple” for her.

“Be strong and try to have a positive attitude - days are super different.”

It didn’t take long for her to realise how much she valued the freedom and independence the role offers. For Ilona, being a courier means being her own boss - choosing when to work, taking responsibility, and building something on her own terms. She often starts her day as early as 7am, and if orders keep coming, so does her motivation.

But what truly sets Ilona apart is her personality. She loves people - whether it’s respecting customers’ wishes to ensure a safe and comfortable delivery, sharing a quick laugh during handovers, or brightening a restaurant’s day with her joyful energy. Many restaurant partners know her as the “ball of sunshine,” often asking where she gets all her energy from.

Outside of deliveries, Ilona stays active with long runs, gym sessions, and time in nature. Her mindset is simple: live day by day, stay positive, and keep moving forward. For her, courier partnership is not just work - it’s independence, growth, and human connection wrapped into one.

Jani from Helsinki

Delivering with Wolt since September 2021, Jani brings an entrepreneurial mindset, independence, and a thoughtful approach to every shift.

💬 “Stop pondering and just apply - it’s worth it.”

After spending 20 years in the restaurant industry, the pandemic gave Jani an unexpected moment to pause and reflect. During long summers at his family’s cottage, surrounded by nature, he carefully considered his next step. True to his Tavastian roots, he didn’t rush the decision - but once he committed, he committed fully.

What attracted him then still motivates him today: freedom, responsibility, and control over his own schedule. Jani structures his days in a way that suits him — starting late in the morning, staying active through the afternoon, and returning for the dinner rush. The flexibility allows him to work independently while maintaining balance.

“Stop pondering and just apply - it’s worth it.”

Living in Alppila, right in the center of Helsinki, is a big advantage. He knows the neighbourhoods well, often delivering around Kallio and Konepaja, and believes efficiency is key. His advice to new couriers? Start memorising addresses and restaurant names early — the better you know the city, the smoother your shifts will be.

Beyond efficiency, it’s the human moments that stand out. From understanding customers who take unexpected mishaps with humour, to positive pickup experiences at local restaurants, Jani values the everyday interactions that make each shift different.

For him, courier partnership is more than deliveries — it’s independence in action, smart planning, and a step toward long-term goals, including one day possibly opening a restaurant of his own.

Elijah from Reykjavik

Delivering with Wolt for the past 1 year and 1 month, Elijah brings energy, care, and a positive attitude to every order.

💬 Make every delivery count.”

What he enjoys most about delivering with Wolt is the flexibility - being able to manage his own time and balance Wolt activity with other parts of life. Working independently means cruising through the city, vibing to good music, and owning the day at their own pace.

“Make every delivery count“

No two days are ever the same. New routes, new customers, and new experiences keep each shift interesting and adventurous. The small moments matter too - friendly chats with customers, hearing about their day, and knowing they’ve made a positive impact along the way.

There’s real satisfaction in delivering food safely and on time, and even more joy in discovering Reykjavik. Since starting, Elijah explored different neighbourhoods, uncovered new places, and experienced the city’s diverse beauty from a whole new perspective.

Szymek: ”Motivating myself as a Courier Partner”

First of all, I think that setting yourself goals goes a long way, for example at the beginning of each month I like to set myself goals I’d like to achieve at work. Those can be either the number of tasks I complete in a month or the money I earn. After you set that goal you should pick out a reward for yourself that you can work towards. Since I’m a bit of a foodie I like to reward myself with an evening at a restaurant so that’s what I’m usually working towards.

After becoming a student I aim to have my monthly earnings between 10 000DK and 12 000DKK monthly before tax, so I set myself little goals of earning 3000 DKK every week and then I divide that even further. On weekends I want to earn at least 700 DKK each day and then I divide the rest between two weekdays. That way I can easily stay on top of my budget and it makes my monthly income pretty predictable. After I reach that monthly goal, I reward myself by going out to a new restaurant that I often found by delivering from it!

Piret: ''Wolt allows you to do deliveries freely''

I have been a Wolt courier partner for a year now. It is a side activity for me! Mainly, I focus on my own company. I wanted to make the activity clear for me and also for my son (who is also a courier partner) so I could be there for him when he needed help. Within a year, I started to like this activity; sometimes, I am online at the same time as my son. My son is finishing his last year in high school!
