When Kyung Ah Meiers opened Kimbap Spot in Bochum in 2018, her goal was to simply cook the Korean food she knows and loves.

Every dish is plant-based and the sauces are made from scratch. The kimchi is handmade; some weeks she makes up to 50 kilograms of it. “We try to be as traditional as possible,” she says. “But we don’t just replace meat with tofu. We create new fusion dishes.”

From the very beginning, the restaurant built a loyal following. Reservations filled up. Regulars came back. But as demand grew, so did the operational pressure, especially around delivery.

Why she chose a delivery partner

Before partnering with Wolt, Kyung managed her own delivery system. “It had to be programmed,” she says. “It was complicated.”

Managing deliveries in-house meant maintaining technical systems, coordinating drivers, and limiting how many orders the team could realistically handle. It worked but it didn’t scale. Her goal in joining Wolt was to simplify delivery and reduce operational strain. But what she discovered was something bigger.

“I didn’t know what to expect at first,” she says. “But very quickly, I saw that this could become a real second revenue stream.”

The onboarding felt straightforward. The system was structured and pickup times were clear. A dedicated sales manager supported her through the setup process.

What surprised her most was the volume. “Really many orders came in. We could accept far more orders than when we delivered ourselves.” Wolt didn’t replace her restaurant business. It expanded it.

Building a second revenue stream

Today, orders through Wolt can account for nearly 50% of Kimbap Spot’s evening revenue. “Since working with Wolt, we are more busy than before especially in the kitchen.”

The team adapted quickly. Processes became more structured. Kitchen and service coordination tightened. A new team member was added with a focus on take-out operations. When the dining room is quieter, delivery keeps the kitchen active. When customers prefer to stay home, the business continues to move. “Knowing that orders are coming in regularly gives us more security,” Kyung says.

Visibility that drives real results

Beyond logistics, Kyung actively uses advertising and promotions on Wolt to support growth.

Instead, performance is closely linked to product quality and margin strategy.

“When we promote products with good margins, like our Kimbap for Two, we really see the impact. More visibility leads to more orders.” For Kyung, those measurable outcomes matter.

Loyalty in the restaurant and in the app

Kimbap Spot currently holds a 9.6 rating on Wolt. “Our scoring is great,” she says. Some customers even ask for the delivery radius to be extended when they move outside the service area.

What stands out most is repeat behavior. “At Wolt we also have regular customers. Some order at least once a week.”

When asked about the future, Kyung pauses. “If I think about our future, I could imagine that a partner like Wolt is a good pillar.” She has considered opening a small, focused take-out concept, something simple and streamlined. "And if I know that in the evening so many orders are already coming through Wolt, then I definitely have to worry less.”

That reduction in uncertainty changes how she thinks about growth. It allows her to plan, invest, and experiment with more confidence.

But at her core, she is still a cook. “What I love most is creating new dishes,” she says. “Thinking of something new and arranging it beautifully on the plate with flowers, with sauces.”

Whether guests dine in or order through Wolt, she wants the experience to feel the same. “My wish is that our food convinces visually, but also in taste. That people leave happy.” With a reliable second revenue stream in place, she can focus on exactly that: creating.
